DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A Dothan Technology Center graphic arts instructor has received national recognition for her work in the classroom.

Dothan City Schools announced that Gina Burdeshaw has been named a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars. The honor highlights educators who show exceptional leadership, commitment and dedication to student success.

Burdeshaw was nominated by one of her students, Alexis Saffold, who praised her “creativity, encouragement, and impact both inside and outside the classroom.” The award recognizes teachers who inspire students to grow as leaders and innovators.

With this distinction, Burdeshaw is now eligible for the Claes Nobel Educator of the Year Award, a national honor that includes a $5,000 prize for one top educator and nine $1,000 awards for additional finalists.

District officials say Burdeshaw’s passion is evident in her daily interactions with students. “We are thrilled to see her receive this well-deserved national recognition,” the release stated.

The National Society of High School Scholars was founded by Claes Nobel, a senior member of the Nobel Prize family, to support high-achieving students and honor the educators who guide them.
