OZARK, Ala. (WDNews) — Ozark’s first responders are turning a friendly rivalry into a chance to help save lives during a blood drive today, according to Ozark Fire and Rescue.
The City of Ozark Department of Public Safety Blood Drive runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at the City of Ozark Municipal Complex, 275 N. Union Ave. The event was originally scheduled for Oct. 20.
The LifeSouth Bloodmobile is collecting donations as Ozark Police, Ozark Fire and Rescue and Ozark Emergency Medical Services compete for community support.
Ozark Fire and Rescue encouraged donors to support its team when giving blood.
“And while we certainly appreciate our friends over at OPD and OEMS… we wouldn’t mind seeing Team OFD come out on top!” the department wrote in an earlier Facebook post.
Beyond the competition, the department emphasized why donations matter.
“All jokes aside, this competition is about something much bigger than winning. Blood donations are critical for trauma patients, surgeries, cancer treatments, and medical emergencies. As first responders, we know just how important it is to have blood available when someone needs it most.”
According to the event flier, donors must be at least 16, weigh at least 110 pounds and show photo identification. Donors who are 16 must have written parental permission.
In its reminder today, Ozark Fire and Rescue encouraged residents who are able to stop by.
“If you’re able, please consider stopping by and donating. Your donation could help save someone’s life!” the department said.
“Remember, the real victory is making a difference for someone who needs blood. But a little friendly competition never hurt!”
