DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Dothan’s Forever Wild Trails reopened at noon Wednesday, Oct. 21, after crews and volunteers cleared storm damage, according to Dothan Leisure Services.
The city said the trails had been closed because of damage from Hurricane Isaias.
In 10 days, crews and volunteers removed more than 60 fallen trees across 400 acres and more than 14 miles of trails. Volunteers contributed more than 320 hours to the cleanup, according to the city.
The city thanked Kenny Long, the Southeast Alabama Mountain Biking Club, the Public Works Department, the General Services Department and other volunteers who helped restore the recreation area.
“This reopening is a testament to the incredible teamwork and dedication of our City employees, community partners, and volunteers. Clearing more than 60 trees across 14 miles of trails in just 10 days is no small task. We are extremely grateful to everyone who stepped up to help restore this important recreational space for our community,” said Keegan Ashbee, assistant director of operations with Leisure Services.
The public is welcome to return and enjoy the trails.
