DOTHAN, Ala. — A man was arrested Tuesday night after a reported stabbing on East Main Street near Foggs Lane, according to Dothan police.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the area at approximately 9:46 p.m. Tuesday following reports of an assault involving an edged weapon/knife.
When officers arrived, they located a male victim suffering from a laceration to the sternum area in a residence. The victim was conscious and alert when police and first responders arrived. Dothan police secured the scene so emergency medical personnel could provide treatment to the victim, who was reported to have sustained serious injuries.
The suspected assailant remained at the scene and was quickly detained by officers upon arrival.
Lt. Scott Owens with the Dothan Police Department confirmed that Jose Juan Mendez was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities also reported that a second individual, described as a white male, was seen leaving the area on foot toward Walker’s Deluxe Motel following the incident. Police searched the area for him, he was also reported as a potential suspect wielding an alleged knife at the scene. It is not immediately known whether that individual was taken into custody.
An update on the victim is not immediately available.
The investigation remains ongoing.
