Abbeville Student Arrested With Gun on Campus

ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WDNews) — An 18-year-old Abbeville High School student is in custody after administrators reported a firearm on campus Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, at approximately 8:45 a.m., school administrators notified the School Resource Officer about a firearm on school grounds. Officials said swift and coordinated actions by school staff, the School Resource Officer and responding deputies quickly contained the situation.

Authorities stated there was no confirmed threat to students or staff at any time during the incident.

Drashon Bussey, 18, of Abbeville, Ala., was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds and possession of an altered firearm. He is being held in the Henry County Jail without bond.

“We will continue to make the safety of our schools a priority. I want to commend Superintendent Lori Beasley and Principal McKay as well as the rest of the staff at Abbeville High School for their partnership with the Henry County Sheriffs Office to ensure the safety of all students,” said Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship.
