OPP, Ala. (WDNews) — Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Bureau of Investigation have launched a death investigation following a fatal shooting in Coffee County.
According to ALEA, agents responded Monday, Feb. 23, at the request of the Kinston Police Department to assist with a shooting death in the 400 block of County Road 483 in Opp.
Authorities identified the suspect as Joseph L. Jackson, 32, of Opp. He was arrested and charged with the murder of Doyle Edward Jackson, 56, also of Opp. Joseph Jackson was additionally charged with tampering with physical evidence and booked into the Coffee County Jail.
Officials said multiple agencies assisted in the manhunt and arrest, including ALEA SBI Special Agents, ALEA Highway Patrol Troopers, the Alabama Department of Corrections K-9 Unit, the Opp Police Department, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, the Covington County Sheriff’s Office, the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office and the Dale County Aviation Unit.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing. Once complete, findings will be turned over to the Coffee County District Attorney’s Office.
