DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — High school seniors across the Wiregrass have a major opportunity this week to apply to college without paying application fees.
The Spring 2026 College Application Campaign is underway now through Feb. 27. During the statewide effort, dozens of Alabama colleges and universities are waiving their application fees, giving students a chance to submit applications at no cost.
Several schools popular with Wiregrass students are participating, including Wallace Community College–Dothan and Enterprise State Community College. Both are part of the Alabama Community College System, which has multiple campuses taking part in the campaign.
Four-year universities across the state are also waiving fees this week. That includes Troy University, Auburn University at Montgomery, The University of Alabama, University of Alabama at Birmingham and University of South Alabama, along with several other public and private institutions statewide.
School counselors in Houston, Coffee, Dale and Geneva counties are encouraging seniors who may still be deciding on plans after graduation to take advantage of the opportunity.
Education leaders say application fees, which can range from $25 to $75 or more, can be a barrier for some families. By removing that cost this week, the campaign is designed to give more students a fair shot at higher education.
Students are encouraged to speak with their school counselors and visit individual college websites to confirm participation details and submission deadlines before the Feb. 27 cutoff.
