DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — With temperatures expected to fall below freezing this week, local leaders and community partners are opening an emergency warming station to help protect vulnerable residents.
The warming station will operate in Houston County at the First Baptist Church Dothan Family Life Center, located at 300 West Main Street, directly behind the church.
Officials say the station will open Monday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. and remain open overnight. It will continue operating until 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24.
The facility will close during daytime hours.
The warming station is open to anyone needing relief from freezing temperatures. Guests will have access to a heated indoor space and a safe place to rest overnight.
Community members are encouraged to check on neighbors, elderly residents and those experiencing homelessness. Anyone in need of shelter should be directed to the warming station.
Residents are also urged to monitor local announcements and community social media pages for additional updates as cold conditions continue.
