DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Bright Key® Dothan Preparatory Academy is set to unveil its new Academic Dream Room during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 12 at 10:30 a.m. The space is sponsored by Five Star Credit Union and Wiregrass Home Team, honoring their partnership and support within the Bright Key® program.
DPA Principal James Williams and Bright Key® District Coordinator Brittany Shepard will speak at the event, along with Bright Key® DPA Resource Coordinator Semetria Horstead. According to the release, the Academic Dream Room “will provide DPA students with opportunities for academic support and enrichment.”
The room was developed after several Bright Key® stakeholder meetings where parents, teachers, and community members selected tutoring as a top priority. The Academic Dream Room is designed as a place for learning enhancement, one-on-one tutoring, and schoolwide enrichment opportunities.
Tutoring services are expected to begin in January. Volunteers from the community will work with the same student each week “to build a supportive friendship with the student” while assisting with academic skills.
Five Star Credit Union and Wiregrass Home Team furnished and resourced the new room. Employees from both organizations are also offering volunteer support. The release also notes that “Dothan Coca-Cola Bottling Company UNITED serves as a special partner, providing a unique mural for the room and continued volunteer support for students.”
Bright Key® encourages community members and local media to attend Friday’s ribbon cutting.
