Dothan, Al. (WDNews) – Guests from the Dale County Sheriff’s Department joined What’s Happening Wiregrass to share details about a new program focused on protecting and supporting local seniors. Sheriff Bynum and Reserve Deputy Ken Hosey introduced the SOS program, which stands for Senior Outreach and Support.

The initiative is designed to provide proactive check-ins for senior citizens, particularly those who live alone, have limited mobility, or may not have family nearby. Through scheduled visits and community outreach, deputies will connect with seniors, assess their needs, and help link them to helpful county and state resources.

The idea for the program was inspired by similar efforts in other areas, along with personal experiences that highlighted the need for more consistent welfare checks. Organizers say the goal is to prevent emergencies by identifying concerns early and ensuring seniors are not left without support.

The program is expected to launch next month. Those interested in signing up a loved one can email Ken Hosey at khosey@daleso.gov or contact the Dale County Sheriff’s Office for more information.
