Dothan, Ala. — U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville has recognized Dothan resident and U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Andy McDuffie as Alabama’s April “Veteran of the Month.”
In a statement released Thursday, Tuberville said McDuffie answered the call to serve in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. McDuffie was a junior in high school when the attacks happened and later joined the Marines after graduating in 2003.
According to Tuberville’s office, McDuffie deployed to the Middle East and served as a squad leader of four units that provided security for Navy explosive ordnance disposal units, often known as the bomb squad.
Tuberville said McDuffie’s love of teamwork began on the football field and continued through his military service. He said serving in the Marines gave McDuffie the opportunity to be part of a team with a greater purpose.
After medically retiring from the Marine Corps, McDuffie returned to school and graduated from Troy University, according to the release. Tuberville said McDuffie also faced survivor’s guilt during his recovery and later rededicated his life to Christ while working to help other veterans in the Wiregrass.
“Andy is a shining example of turning tragedy into purpose,” Tuberville said. “It’s my honor to recognize him as the April ‘Veteran of the Month.’”
Tuberville’s office is accepting nominations for the 2026 “Veteran of the Month” series. Nominations can be submitted by email to press_office@tuberville.senate.gov.
