Dothan, Ala. (WDNews) – Boys & Girls Clubs Summer Program Continues Enrollment As CEO Highlights Impact
Wiregrass – Registration remains open for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Wiregrass 2026 Summer Program, offering families a structured and engaging option for children during the summer months.
The program will run from June 1 through July 31 and costs $100 per week. It is offered at three locations across the Wiregrass, including the Dothan McMullen Club, Enterprise Club and Daleville Club.
WDNews spoke with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Wiregrass CEO Sherrell Doby, who has led the organization since August 2024 and has been with the club for seven years. Doby said keeping children engaged in productive activities during the summer is critical.
“We are open to children ages 5 to 16. Teenagers also have the oppertunity to volunteer,” Doby said.
Doby said the program is built around structure and enrichment, giving children opportunities to stay active and continue learning while school is out.
“We offer structured programs like a dance team, violin lessons, and arts and crafts,” Doby said.
The program operates from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., providing full-day supervision for working families. Doby emphasized that all locations are staffed with adults at all times to ensure a safe environment.
The program also includes recreation and fitness along with educational opportunities. Doby said students can take part in documentaries, learning-based gaming and summer tutoring to help prevent learning loss.
Doby shared a personal connection to the program, noting her own children attend and that she often sees how engaged participants are.
She said it’s common to see children asking to stay longer when they are picked up, something she said reflects the environment and programming offered.
In addition to programming, the organization offers financial assistance programs and scholarship opportunities for families who meet eligibility requirements.
Doby encourages parents who are interested or considering the program to visit a location and see it firsthand with a tour.
Families can stop by after 3 p.m. Monday through Friday to tour facilities in Dothan, Enterprise and Daleville and speak with staff on hand.
Space is limited and families are encouraged to register early to secure a spot.
