Dothan, Al. (WDNews) – Wiregrass Daily News sat down with Casey Green of Wiregrass Pets to talk about the shelter’s current needs as puppy and kitten season begins ramping up across the Wiregrass. Green brought along Cheesecake, an 8–10 week old Basset Hound mix currently on stray hold and available for foster-to-adopt through the shelter.
Green said Wiregrass Pets is already seeing litters come through its doors and is preparing for a busy spring with a Stock the Nursery supply drive happening from 4 to 6 p.m. today, February 12th. As an open-intake facility serving Dothan and Houston County, the shelter can take in anywhere from two to fifteen animals a day and is currently over capacity.
The drive is focused on collecting puppy pads, bottle formula for puppies and kittens, heating pads, incubators, and puppy food to help foster families care for vulnerable bottle babies. Green also emphasized that fostering can be flexible, ranging from single-day outings to short-term slumber parties. More information about fostering, adoption, and donations is available at wiregrasspets.org.
