Dothan, Al. (WDNews) – Wiregrass Daily News met with Stephanie Hardin, Social Services Coordinator for the City of Dothan Municipal Court and board member of SEACH, the Southeast Alabama Coalition for Homelessness, to discuss the upcoming Point-in-Time Count event and winter outreach efforts in Houston County.

The nationwide effort, led by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, takes place each January and helps determine federal funding for homeless services. Locally, SEACH covers Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties, with Hardin serving as the lead for Houston County this year.

The Houston County event will be held Friday, January 24, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Dothan Housing Authority at 1001 Montana Street. The event will offer free haircuts, health screenings, hygiene products, cold weather items, and access to local resources.

Hardin also shared information about the Dothan warming station at First Baptist Church’s Family Life Center, which opens during extreme cold weather from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and provides cots, meals, and a safe place to stay warm.
