Dothan, AL. (WDNews) – Wiregrass Daily News sat down with Jason McDonald, president and one of the founders of the Beards for Benefits Wiregrass chapter, to discuss their mission and upcoming events.

The organization, which is completely volunteer-run and nonprofit, works to support disabled children and disabled veterans by pairing them for outdoor experiences, especially turkey hunting.

Each spring, the group brings together participants and guides to spend a weekend in the woods across Houston, Dale, Henry, and Barbour counties, offering a unique opportunity for connection, confidence building, and time outdoors.

The chapter also aims to provide at least one child each year with a track chair, allowing greater accessibility and independence in nature.

This season, the group is also hosting a doe hunting contest December 5–7 to raise funds for their efforts, with adult and youth divisions and weigh-in locations across the region.

More information on sign-ups, donations, and future events can be found on the Beards for Benefits Wiregrass Facebook page.
