Dothan, Al. (WDNews) – Wiregrass Daily News met with representatives from the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission — Head Start Director Robbie Ann, ERSEA and PFCE Manager Scott, and Family Service Specialist Kim — to discuss the agency’s Head Start Program and its vital role in Southeast Alabama.
The program serves children from birth to five years old at centers in Opp, Andalusia, Florala, Geneva, and Eufaula.
Robbie Ann explained that Head Start is “more than just a preschool,” focusing on education, health, and family well-being. Kim shared that staff “adopt families,” helping connect them to resources such as housing, nutrition, and developmental screenings.
Scott emphasized that Head Start supports parents as the child’s “first teachers,” offering guidance and community resources to help families succeed.
In celebration of Head Start Awareness Month, the centers are hosting activities like “Dance and Donuts with Dads” to encourage family involvement. Families can learn more or apply online at serpdc.org.
