MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDNews) — Gov. Kay Ivey awarded $27 million for capital expenses at Auburn University and the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences, according to the governor’s office.
Auburn will receive $22 million, while the newly established Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences will receive $5 million through the Public School and College Authority.
“The Public School and College Authority funding allows us to make generational investments in the classrooms that are fostering future generations. There is simply no task more important than equipping our young people with the best opportunities to succeed,” Ivey said.
“I am proud to award my alma mater, Auburn University, as well as the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences funding that will help them prepare our students for promising futures.”
According to the governor’s office, the money comes from interest earned on funds originally issued in 2020.
Ivey approved both awards Tuesday during a meeting of the Public School and College Authority. Her office said she has awarded more than $1.9 billion in authority funding during her tenure.
