DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A Dothan man faces two attempted murder charges after police say he fired at a teenager and a young adult during a confrontation over their driving.
Samuel Avery Cook, 33, was arrested following the Oct. 16 shooting in the 100 block of Jimmie Lane, according to the Dothan Police Department.
Officers responding to a shots-fired call spoke with the victims, ages 17 and 21. They told officers Cook confronted them about driving too fast down the street and began assaulting the 17-year-old.
Police said Cook was separated from the victims but returned with a firearm. He threatened to “kill several people” and began shooting at them, according to investigators.
The victims took cover behind a vehicle, which was struck by bullets, police said.
During the investigation, officers also identified Cook as a suspect in a separate incident involving his former employer’s vehicle six days earlier.
According to police, Cook had been fired but still had a company vehicle. Investigators said he threatened an employee about recovering it, damaged the vehicle and hid it in a field near his home.
Police said additional reports described erratic and escalating behavior before the shooting.
Cook is charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of first-degree criminal mischief. He was booked into the Dale County Jail and, according to the department’s release, is being held without bond.
