MARIANNA, Fla. (WDNews) — Jackson County officials have temporarily closed Spring Creek Park until further notice because of high water levels creating unsafe conditions for recreation.
According to Jackson County Parks & Recreation, the closure was put in place to protect visitors after rising river levels reduced the waterway’s ability to flow properly.
Officials said that when the river reaches approximately 12 feet, there is no longer adequate outflow, causing water to become stagnant. Those conditions can leave tubers stranded, making the water unsafe for recreational use.
After evaluating current conditions, the Parks & Recreation Department determined the park should remain closed until water levels return to a safe range.
County staff said they are monitoring river conditions daily and will reopen Spring Creek Park as soon as it is safe for the public.
Spring Creek Park is located on the south side of Highway 90 across from Merritt’s Mill Pond, just west of Highway 71.
