Monroe, Ala. (WDNews) — Steve Marshall announced the arrest of three Monroe County residents in connection with alleged absentee ballot violations tied to the Aug. 26, 2025, Frisco City municipal election.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, Sarah Bennett, 60, Sharon Denson, 67, and Samantha Kyles, 46, were charged following a grand jury indictment.
Authorities said the three face a combined 17 counts of ballot harvesting and 20 counts of unlawful use of absentee ballots.
The indictment alleges the defendants falsified absentee ballot applications or verification documents and harvested ballots from multiple individuals during the election.
Unlawful use of absentee ballots is a Class C felony in Alabama, punishable by one year and one day up to 10 years in prison. Ballot harvesting is a Class A misdemeanor, which carries a potential penalty of up to one year in jail.
The case is being handled by the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Division. Officials said no additional information about the investigation or the alleged crimes is being released at this time.
An indictment is not a conviction. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
