DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Organizers are seeking volunteers and service providers for an event that will connect people experiencing homelessness with resources and support.
The 2027 Houston County Homeless Connect and Point-in-Time Count event will take place Friday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1001 Montana St. in Dothan.
According to an announcement shared by ALIGN Network, SEACH and the Wiregrass AL-508 Continuum of Care are bringing together community organizations, service providers and volunteers for the event.
Homeless Connect helps individuals and families find assistance by gathering resources in one location.
The Point-in-Time Count counts people experiencing homelessness, including those staying in shelters and those without shelter. Organizers say the information helps identify local needs, gaps in services and resources needed to address homelessness.
Volunteers are needed to help set up the event, handle registration, assist participants, distribute supplies and connect people with services.
Organizers also invite local agencies, nonprofits, health care providers, employers, housing organizations and recovery services to participate as resource vendors.
They are seeking partners who can offer health screenings, employment assistance, housing resources, hygiene items, clothing, food or other support. These are requested services and supplies; the announcement does not list confirmed providers.
Community members can register through the “volunteer signup form” (https://form.jotform.com/alignnetworknp/homeless-connect-pit-volunteer-sign). Organizations interested in participating can complete the “resource vendor signup form” (https://form.jotform.com/alignnetworknp/homeless-connect-point-in-time-2027).
