According to Gov. Kay Ivey’s office, flags across Alabama have been ordered to half-staff in memory of legendary singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman and humanitarian Dolly Parton.
The order follows a presidential directive honoring Parton, who died Aug. 25, 2026, at age 80.
Flags are to be lowered beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, and remain at half-staff through sunset Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Ivey reflected on Parton’s rise from humble beginnings to becoming one of America’s most recognized entertainers and philanthropists.
“Dolly was more than a songbird, she was a living legend,” Ivey said. “I know I join all Alabamians when I say, ‘We will always love you, Dolly.’”
Ivey also highlighted Alabama’s partnership with Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to young children across the state.
Under the order, flags should return to full staff after sunset Sept. 1.
