LEVEL PLAINS, Ala. (WDNews) — The Level Plains Police Department is inviting residents from across the Wiregrass to attend its 6th Annual Fireworks in the Park celebration on July 4 at Level Plains Park.

Chief Johnny Summers said the event has grown significantly since it began six years ago.

“What started six years ago with around 100 attendees and just a few vendors has grown into one of our community’s favorite events,” Summers said. “Last year, we welcomed an estimated 1,000–1,500 spectators and more than 40 vendors, and we are excited to make this year’s event even bigger and better.”

According to Summers, the free event will feature activities and attractions for all ages, including inflatables for children, a dunking booth, static displays from first responder agencies, including helicopters and emergency vehicles, as well as craft and food vendors.

Attendees can also enjoy candy, toys and giveaways provided by the Level Plains Police Department.

“Best of all, admission to the event is completely free,” Summers said.

The evening will conclude with what Summers described as “a spectacular continuous fireworks show lasting approximately one hour,” also free to the public.

“This event is a true blessing for my officers and me because it gives us an opportunity to give back to the community and spend time fellowshipping with our friends and neighbors throughout the Wiregrass,” Summers said.

The chief also thanked several organizations and individuals for helping make the event possible.

“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Circle B, our Gold Sponsor, for helping make this event possible,” Summers said. “We would also like to thank Senator Donnie Chesteen for his support through the tourism grant, as well as the funding provided through Alabama’s 250th Celebration Grant. We are truly humbled and grateful for these partnerships and the support they provide to our community.”

Gates will open at 4 p.m. on July 4. All event parking will be accessed from County Road 1.

Handicap parking will be available in the field north of the event area. Guests requiring accommodations, including wheelchair access, may park in front of the Community Center. Vehicles must display a valid handicap placard or handicap license plate.

Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and organizers encourage visitors to arrive early.

“My officers and I cannot wait to see everyone on July 4th. Bring your family, bring your friends, and come celebrate Independence Day with us in Level Plains,” Summers said. “We look forward to seeing you there!”
