Dothan, Al. (WDNews) – Wiregrass Daily News welcomed John John with People Engaged in Recovery and Lisa Bowden with Rural Addiction Prevention, who joined the show to discuss an upcoming 100-mile walk aimed at raising awareness about overdose and recovery.
The Enduring Their Legacies 100 Mile Walk is Their Voice will begin Aug. 16 at the People Engaged in Recovery center at 1930 Wise Drive in Dothan. Over five days, participants will make their way to the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery.
Organizers said groups from across Alabama will participate, with hydration stations and resource tents planned along the route. Free Narcan and information about addiction, treatment and recovery resources will also be available.
John John and Bowden emphasized the importance of peer support and providing resources beyond treatment, including recovery community centers where people can find support, activities and connections with others in recovery.
