Dothan, Al. (WDNews) – SEACT directors Dana and Brianna joined What’s Happening Wiregrass to discuss Newsies Jr., the organization’s latest student production at the Cultural Arts Center.
Based on the true story of New York City newsboys who organized a strike in the 1890s, the musical follows young workers as they unite to stand up for fair treatment.
The production combines an inspiring historical story with energetic music, dance, and performances from local students.
The directors shared that Newsies Jr. features 57 students ranging in age from 7 to 18, making it the largest student production in SEACT history.
Throughout rehearsals, cast members have built friendships, developed confidence, and learned the importance of teamwork while bringing the story to life on stage. Many of the performers are participating in a full-length SEACT musical for the first time.
Dana and Brianna also highlighted the support of parents, volunteers, and production staff who helped create the show.
Newsies Jr. runs Thursday, June 4 through Saturday, June 6 at the Cultural Arts Center, with evening performances at 7 p.m. and a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are available through SEACT.
